The Dambana ng Kagitingan, Philippines

The Dambana ng Kagitingan or the Shrine of Valor, lies in an breadth about 73, 665 hectares. It was done and inaugurated in 1970, consisting of a Colonnade and the giant Canonizing Cross. Then President Ferdinand Marcos conceived of the Dambana ng Kagitingan as a applicable canonizing to the ballsy attempt and sacrifices of the Filipinos who fought and died in that celebrated breastwork of freedom

On April 9, 1942, about 75,000 Filipino & United States soldiers, commanded by Major General Edward "Ned" P. King, Jr., formally surrendered to the Japanese army under Lt. General Masaharu Homma. To commemorate the gallantry of these troops, April 9 of every year was declared Araw ng Kagitingan. The most distinct feature of the shrine is the Memorial Cross, a 92-meter marble, steel & concrete structure built 555 meters above sea level. Every April 9, the President together with the ambassadors of the United States & Japan, leaders of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, & surviving WWII veterans visit the shrine to commemorate the said surrender & the beginning of the Bataan Death March. The Philippine-American troops on this war-ravaged & bloodstained peninsula have laid down their arms. Our men have fought a brave & bitterly contested struggle. Bataan has fallen, but the spirit that made it stand--a beacon to all the liberty-loving peoples of the world--cannot fall!
